Formatting Text Fields: Advanced (Points) Version | ||||||||||||||||
Use this version of the text field formatting instructions only if you are an experienced user of PonyBytes and want points (if you're not, use these directions instead). When the site accepts your photo, it stores it with two text fields: the Title field, and the Description field. Both of these fields need to be completed to enter shows and have your results and points tabulated correctly, just like when you complete leg tags for live shows. The good news is, unlike a live show where you have to keep packing and unpacking horses, and tagging and untagging them with different info, you only have to do it once for each photo and then you're good for every show you enter thereafter. Watch the VideoYou can either watch this quick two-minute video from Julia, or you can read the text directions below. Edit the Title FieldIn your MyGallery area, click the small link labeled "Edit" underneath a thumbnail image to launch the Edit Photo form. ![]() ![]() Location of "Edit" photo link. Put your horse's name in the Title field and change it only if the Show Hosts instructs you to do so. Since this is the only text visible when a person is looking at the whole class-ful of horses, the host may want something that helps her steward the show, such as breed and gender for halter, or the event for performance. Alter the Form Description Field TextWhen you uploaded your photo, you might have noticed that the Description field had the following form text already in it. ![]() ![]() Form language in the Description field. To format an entry for points, you will alter the form text. First, add ID*###| right before NAME. Then add EVENT*Event| right before OTHER*|. ![]() ![]() Alter the template Description field text. You MUST include the tags for all four elements (ID, NAME, EVENT and OTHER) with your photo or your horse may not appear in results and/or points will not calculate correctly. In other words, you cannot put in ID* but not EVENT*, or vice-versa. We can try to fix this at the results stage, but we can only do it if we have the time and there are only a few entries with a problem. If you do not have time to do all the tags correctly, follow the "simple" text formatting directions instead. Edit the Form Description Field TextNow that you have altered the form description field text for points, you will now edit ###, HorseName, Event, and the stuff after OTHER* to suit your horse. Do not add an extra space after the * characters, use "and" instead of "&," do not put hard returns or paragraphs in this area, and use apostrophes instead of quotes. ![]() ![]() Editable parts of the altered form Description text. ID Info. The horse's ID is a unique three-digit number assigned by you for every horse. The ID will be used by the site to add up points, in combination with "EVENT" info. For example, if you win first place (worth five points) with your horse Sparky in a "Western" performance event, and win first place again (another five points) with Sparky in in a "Western" performance event in a different show, the database will know from the ID number that a single horse, Sparky, has earned a total of ten points in Western performance for the year.
Event Info. The information that goes in the area behind the "EVENT*" tag should be assigned by the show host using the list below.
Other Info. The area labeled "OTHER*" is where you're going to put any other information that you need for your entry, such as breed and gender, collectibility info such as maker, mold and run number, the horse's color for workmanship, or documentation for performance. Documentation. You can paste links to documentation photos or webpages in the area after "OTHER*" in the Description field and it will work as an active, live link to your documentation. Go to this Help document for more info. Saving Your Edits. After you have made your edits, click the "Edit Picture" button in the lower part of the "Edit Picture" page. You can edit your entries up until entries close. After that, there can be no changes. Some ExamplesHere's an example of a Description field that I edited for my mare, Oilily, who will be entered in a Breed halter class. I've underlined in green the specific edits I made just for her. ![]() ![]() Example of Advanced Description field formatting with specific horse information in it. A "live" example of a Description field that has been properly edited for a "Breed" halter class is here.
