Les Animaux
#1
[Image: les_animaux_banner.JPG]

Show Name: Les Animaux. French for "the animals." An-eee-moh.

Show Gallery to Open: December 18, 2020 through entry closure date/time below.

Entries Close: December 25, 2020 at 3:00 PM PST, 4:00 PM MT, 5:00 PM CST, 6:00 PM EST.

Fees: No fees. Show is open to all registered users. New users must read the Help Document section entitled Instructions for Entrants. There is no good substitute for actually reading that section.

Rules: Since the show will be conducted entirely on PonyBytes, you must make a practice post to the "Test" thread. Limit of 30 entries per entrant. This is to keep everyone from abandoning their families for the holiday while they take portraits of walruses and squirrel. Don't get too hung up on getting your entry in the "right" class, just make your best guess. If you want to do some research on dog and cat breeds, I'd suggest these two sites: AKC website; Cat Fanciers Association. I reserve the right to split or consolidate classes to ensure fair competition.

Photo Text Fields: Put the type of animal/breed in the Title of the photo. The Event will be “Fun” for pointseekers. Description fields should be formatted per Help documents. Note to folks new to PonyBytes: Read the Help Documents section on Description field formatting and do not leave this until the last minute. Format the Description this way:

NAME*Giraffe|OTHER*H-R ceramic DW Giraffe, made 1950s.

Judge: Eliz LaRose, elizabeth here on PonyBytes.

Eligibility: All animal sculpture is good, regardless of medium or make, even if it is comical or deco.

Judging Criteria: Simple aesthetics, and each item will be judged on its own merits, which could be a function of all the conventional criteria plus the obvious subjective component. Feel free to include collectibility and any applicable workmanship information (no artist names please, but you can identify the medium used, the fabric such as ceramic or plastic) in the |OTHER* Description Field area.

Prizes: Virtual champ ribbons that stay on your PonyBytes profile and in your posts under they’re edged out by other awards.

CLASSES: Note that because I did not use numbers, the upload menu will display classes in alphabetic order instead of the order that the classes display in the Gallery or below.

Hi Liz--I'm going to give this a try! I have a quick question. I see in the help files that under NAME you list the horse's name. But it looks like for this show you are asking for a different format with the name being the type of animal and then a description of maker, year, etc. under other. I just want to make sure, and I'll go back and change 'em as I only have a few so far. Smile

Thanks!

Well hello there nancy! Smile

There are two text fields with the photos: a Title field and a Description field.

What goes in the Title field is at the discretion of the showholder. The Title field is the only field the showholders and judges can see when stewarding classes (it's the only field visible in thumbnail view). Therefore that will vary from show-to-show. In the case of this show, I want the animal in there so I can make sure the model is in the right class (Buffalo vs. Dog) without having to enlarge and scrutinize each photo.

The Description field is the one that the database uses to produce results, and that's the one that needs to contain:

NAME*HorseName|OTHER*Make model or whatever else you want.

Let me know if that doesn't answer your question. Excited to see your critters!

Thank you so much, Liz, for the speedy reply. That tells me exactly what I needed to know. For some reason I got the idea that you didn't want the critter's "given name" for this show. Looking forward to seeing what everyone has! Thanks for doing this. Smile
